Believe it or not, they actually make bras that are for your butt, instead of for your breasts. Waist cincher vests are useful for a variety of reasons, but most women use them for waist training, reshaping the torso or waist line and in conjunction with weight loss programs. I use the Vedette style 100/150 to slim my waistline. I have to tell you, the compression level on this is very powerful! Now there are different types of firm compression shapers. You can purchase panty house that claim to offer firm control, but just to be clear – I am not talking about hosiery style garments like Flexees or Spanx. The style of garment that I am referring to are more along the lines of the Colombian and Brazilian waist cinchers, body girdles and shaping foundation garments. Squeem, Vedette and Ann Michell are the most popular brands.
Squeem, Vedette and Ann Michell are all great product lines. Their body shapers are made from a breathable Brazilian rubber. Although you can wear them on a daily basis, I would recommend taking a break in between days. For example – if you wear it for four consecutive days, go two days without it – or with a lighter compression brand like Spanx.
Firm compression garments often promise to quicken the weight loss process and help you lose inches from your waist line with prolonged use. This can be true in some cases, because the firm compression body shapers tend to be tighter; they also cause your body to perspire. What this does in turn is to cause your body to lose water weight. Many women carry water weight in their midsection, so I guess you could say that it does make you lose inches – although it’s water weight before anything else.
Some firm compression vests and suits are made from a thicker material, so you won’t be able to wear them under your sexy dresses, however Vedette does have some pieces in their line that are firm yet thin enough to wear with your slinkiest dresses.

In my last article, I went over the different types of women’s body shapers; the shaper, the slimmer and the enhancer. Now I would like to do a quick comparison of the top three brands of body shaping products for women – Ann Michell, Spanx and the Vedette.

Ann Michell: Ann Michell is a Colombian line of women’s body shaper products. The line includes waist cincher vests, long leg body shapes, mid-thigh suits and body brief styles. What I like most about Ann Michell is the varying degrees of firmness available. The units range from a “normal” firm compression to a super compression. Ann Michell shapers have a very soft lining, making them more comfortable to wear. All the body shapes in this line tend to be cut very small. Despite what the measuring chart tells you, you will want to get at least once size larger. The Diany style 1040 shapes, reduces size and lifts the butt. The Alejandra style 1046 is like an instant lipo procedure with its super compression effect.

Vedette: The Vedette shapers are made from a Brazilian rubber that is breathable. This line features one of the largest ranges of products amongst all the body shaper brands. Their line includes corsets, briefs, boy shorts, full body shapers and butt enhancing panties. The designers of Vedette products are masterful at slimming the waistline. Their but enhancing products come in two styles, padded panties and briefs as well as but cut out shape wear. The butt cut out style is designed to lift the buttocks without covering it with fabric, thereby giving it the appearance of looking fuller and shapelier.

Spanx: The Spanx brand fall under the category of “hosiery shape wear”. Ann Michell and Vedette are made from rubbery materials whereas Spanx (as well as Flexees, Dr Rey and Slimpressions) are made from a lycra spandex type material.  Spanx is one of the most widely recognizable brand names in women’s shape wear and their brand has expanded immensely over the years. Their product line now includes shapers, slips, tights, body suits and camisoles. As I mentioned earlier, Spanx is a style of hosiery shape wear. While the material is thicker and heavier than normal pantyhose – the lycra spandex is lighter than the rubber material of Ann Michell and Vedette.  This style of shaper is good for it’s smoothing effect. It does not have the “oomph” of firm compression shapers, but it will make you look and feel sleek.

These are most useful when you want to smooth over bulges and give a more “clean” and flat look to your body in your clothes.

Body Shapers: now true body shapers will do just that; change the shape of your body. Shapers are ideal for women who want to add curves, shape and definition to places where they normally have none.  This may mean flattening your tummy, shaving inches off your waist line or lifting your butt. Most body shapers do all of the above. By doing the aforementioned, your body will naturally look slimmer as well.

Body Enhancers: Now a body enhancer can act as a stand-alone piece that only enhances one part of your body – or it can be a full body product that enhances, shapes and slims. What do I mean by a product that enhances shapes and slims? Well let me break it down. For starters you can have a product that focuses on just one part of your body – like your butt. Padded panties that make your butt and/or hips bigger would be an example of a product with singular focus. Perhaps you already have a nice small waist with full breast – but your backside is lacking…then padded underwear would be the best choice for you. Then there are also full body units that slim your waistline, add curves to your hips and make your butt look bigger – for that perfect hourglass figure!

Like most, I first learned of Spanx several years ago while watching an episode of the Oprah Winfrey Show. Like thousands of other women, I immediately decided that if Oprah loves it, the least I could do is try it!

I went on to purchase three pieces, the Slim Cognito Shaping Body Suit, Hide&Sleek Hi-Rise Smoother and Slim Cognito Seamless Mid-Thigh Bodysuit. I wanted a unit for every day casual clothes, formal events and another for work. I received my order relatively quickly and immediately took note of the light weight fabric. It is obviously spandex but a lot more firm.

I felt very comfortable wearing the garment during my first use of the product. Going to the bathroom was easy enough and the material was not very restrictive in terms of my ability to move. Everything felt “in place”.

It was during the second use that I realized that the Spanx slimming shapewear did not do what I expected or wanted it to do…which is SHAPE! When I purchase body shapers, I expect them to give shape to my body.  For example, if you are a round apple shaped woman – you expect a foundation garment to make you look a little LESS round. In my experience, Spanx did not do this.

So what happened between my first and second use? Well, PMS is what happened! I was hit with bloating and water retention. I wear body shapers regularly so I assumed that Spanx would behave similarly to my other pieces (of different brands) but it did not. I both felt and looked just as bloated wearing the Spanx as I did before I took put it on.

I expect my body girdles to yield the same results on both my “good body” days as well as my “bad body” days, unfortunately spanx did not do this for me. Now with that said, I still wear my spanx body shaper. I’m just now very clear on my expectation of the product – it does not shape me. It is a piece that I wear to basically give my body a more smooth appearance on my “good body” days. I do not wear Spanx when I need extra support, tucking, lifting or cinching.

I chuckled a bit – he of course – didn’t find it very funny at all! So he asked why it is that women feel the need to go overboard with our body enhancers, and that’s a pretty good question in my opinion. Now as a woman I am a strong advocate of using everything at your disposal to enhance your natural beauty. However, as a sister, I can empathize with the plight of my brother and countless other men.

However, I never wear more than one body enhancement at a time. If I’m wearing a bra that really accentuates my cleavage – then I will not wear my waist cincher. If I am enhancing my rear with butt lifting jeans – then I don’t wear my waist cincher or water bra. I still look and feel great, but my “enhanced” body is closer to my real body.

3. Keep it realistic: You want to enhance your beauty, not become a totally different person. If your hair is naturally shoulder length – don’t install a waist length weave! Why I Prefer Body Magic Over Spanx

I was introduced to the Body Magic Body Shaper by a close friend who signed up to be an independent distributor with the Ardyss Company. I personally do not care for multi-level marketing programs, but I am a sucker for body shapers. I agreed to try the product and give her an honest review of Body Magic.

Allow me to begin by stating that I love firm compression in all my body shaping units. Be it women’s girdles, waist cinchers or full body shapers. Body Magic is a very well-constructed garment. I immediately decided that my money was well spent from that standpoint alone. Putting the piece on was relatively easy for me. I wear body shapers on a regular basis, so I am accustom to the hooks and buttons. Body magic does have more than my other pieces, but the means is justified with the end result in my opinion. If you are new to wearing body re-shaping garments, expect to struggle with putting it on the first few times.

One negative to wearing the Body Magic is the number of hooks in the crotch area, so going to the bathroom is extremely challenging. If you have a weak bladder, Body Magic may not be the best body shaper for you.

Now construction and assembly aside – the most important question that still needs to be answered is whether or not the Body Magic Body Shaper makes good on the promises. There are several claims made by Ardyss with regards to this product; you will instantly “lose” 3 dress sizes, lose several inches and experience weight loss.

I have to be upfront and admit that losing weight was not my main objective when I began using the Body Magic, nor was reducing my dress size. However, what I can tell you for certain is that with consistent use of the body shaper, I know longer seem to struggle with water retention weight gain. Like many women, when my weight begins to fluctuate, especially during the type of my menstrual cycle – I carry a lot of water weight in my mid-section. I am normally an hourglass shape, however when I gain weight – it settles in my torso. I wore my Body Magic for two consecutive weeks and then decided to give my body a rest for several days. Plastic surgery is becoming more and more popular amongst your normal every day women. Financing options and good credit make it more affordable and easier to have; while celebrity adoration makes it less taboo. For many women, striving to reach their idea of the perfect body – exercise and dieting simply doesn’t cut it. Young and old, fat and thin – tens of thousands of women are going under the knife for lipo procedures every day.

To be very clear, I have taken up no qualms with cosmetic surgery. I am realistic and know that for many women, looking good on the outside helps them to feel even better on the inside. Liposuction, as a procedure sucks the layers of fat from areas of your body – more specifically your abdomen and waist. Some women get lipo to simply have a flatter stomach. Just as a quick reminder, the hourglass body type is defined by having proportionate bust and hip measurements along with a waistline that is ten to twelve inches smaller. For example, 36-24-36 is considered hourglass measurements. Our waist size is determined by the underlying width and structure of the rib cage. A surgeon would also need to consider the distance between the bottom of your rib cage and the top of your pelvic bone.

If the structure of your rib cage is naturally wide, then there may be very little that can be done to reshape you. In other words, you have to determine what it is that stops you from being an hourglass naturally. If layers of fat on your waist, sides and flanks hide your waist – then that is relatively easy to remedy with liposuction. If your rib cage is wide and the amount of fat is minimal, the procedure will not yield the results you desire.

There are other options which are far more drastic, like removing a rib. Ultimately the best way to determine the most ideal solution for you is to meet with an experienced cosmetic/plastic surgeon. Many do reduced (or free) consultations – so it doesn’t hurt to try.

Some people close to you may admonish and chastise you for even considering elective surgery for such a “superficial” reason – don’t feel bad about your decision to research the possibilities. It is your body, your life and you deserve to live it the way you see fit.

I grew up watching my abuelita and other women in my family wrap, or “bind” the bellies of female relatives that had just given birth. A triangle can achieve balance in several ways:

Tops: Shirts with embellishments around the bust and shoulders or tops with a fitted waist will add
dimension to that area, which gives more proportional balance to your lower half. Off the shoulder tops also work well with this body type because it gives an appearance of wider shoulders, pair that with a nipped waist and your already small waist will be accentuated.

Bottoms: A-line skirts tend to smooth the hips while emphasizing the waist. Pears/triangles are naturally hippy, so the A-Line will play that down while playing up your middle. Dark colored slacks and jeans work best, specifically a relaxed fit that falls straight down from the widest part of your hip. Tapered pants and flared pants will make your lower half look heavy – so avoid those when possible.

1. Inverted Triangle: Imagine a triangle – now turn it upside down, and that is a pretty accurate image of what this body type looks like. Your upper body is proportionately large, with broad shoulders, a side back and large bust. Your breast may not be “ample” per se, but your upper torso is just full in general. Your hips are slim and narrow, your butt tends to be on the flatter side and your waistline is not very defined. You may even describe yourself as “stocky”.

2 & 3. Pear and Spoon: The Pear and Spoon body types are very similar with the most noticeable difference being in the hips. For women with a pear shape, their hips gradually slopes out from the waist, making for a more smooth curve line. With a spoon body type, the hips almost jut out from the waist, creating a noticeable “shelf”. Both the pear and spoon type includes a much smaller bust and a small waist.Pears and spoons are definitely curvy, but lack proportional balance between the bust and hips which is the primary trait of an hourglass figure.

4. Top Hourglass: The primary difference between a top hourglass and regular hourglass is obviously in the bust measurement. An hourglass body type is known by the matching bust and hip measurement and slim waistline. In a top hourglass, the bust and hip measurements are slightly off, for example a measurement of 40- 28-39 would be considered a top hourglass body type.

5. Hourglass: The hourglass body is the most desirable. Women strive for this body type and men overwhelmingly select an hourglass as the most feminine and attractive in most every study conducted. If you are an hourglass, consider yourself lucky! Your bust and hips are proportionately balanced, your waist is small and well defined and you likely have a really nice round butt!

6. The Ruler (Straight) Body: This body build is similar to the shape of a rectangle. Your bust and hips are proportional, and your waist is not very defined. Ruler body measurements would be something along the lines of 38-37-38. This is not an ideal body type for most women as it can look very boyish in appearance.

The term “hourglass figure” refers to a female body form as having measurements of “36-24-36″ inches, and is based upon important biological and hormonal factors. These ideal female proportions invoke an image of a youthful, attractive, and sexually enticing woman in our modern day society.  A widely used technique that reliably measures the attractiveness of the female figure is known as the waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), where the typical range for a healthy, attractive, premenopausal woman has been shown to be 0.67 to 0.80, with 0.7 being ideal.   Therefore, cosmetic surgeons who understand these anatomical proportions are better able to provide their clients with a youthful and more attractive figure.

There are two types of cosmetic surgery that can be used to give you a bigger butt. Silicone can be implanted in a similar fashion to silicone breast implants and then there is the so called “Brazilian butt lift” which is a more innovative procedure that produces more natural looking results.

Terms like “bootylicious” and “dime piece” have caused millions of women, both young and old, to do the craziest things in order to obtain their ideal (or perhaps, society’s ideal) of the perfect female figure. But ironically enough, the quest for physical perfection isn’t a modern day vice, the use of organ shifting corsets, body wraps and the like date as far back as ancient Egyptian culture.

Now before you try to “get” an hourglass shaped body, you should first understand exactly what it is and how far you have to go before you reach your goal.

The term “hourglass” is used to define the shape because it literally resembles an old-fashioned hourglass. It is also sometimes referred to as a figure 8. When you looking at the digit 8, the middle represents the waist of the woman, with the top and bottom representing their counterparts on the female body as well. So this body type is ALL about your measurements and not your dress size or weight. You can be a 100 pound size 2 or a 200 pound size 18, and still have an hourglass figure. In a woman with a true hourglass body shape, the measurements of her hips and bust are generally the same (or very close to it) and her waist measurement is equal to, or less than 75% of her hip and waist measurement. In other words, take your bust and waist measurement, assuming they are equal and then subtract 10 to 12 inches from that number. If your natural waistline falls into that number (or less), you have an hourglass shape – if your waist is larger than that number…you have
some work to do.

Now that you’ve determined how close (or far) you are from having a natural hourglass figure, you should have a better idea of what you need to do to get it. As desired and desirable as it is, the average woman does not have a figure 8 body type as genetics plays as much a factor in your shape as your diet. This doesn’t mean that it isn’t achievable – be it “naturally” or with a little help from body shaping products and garments.
